Q: Why a surveillance system?
A: No situation in our daily lives can be 100% risk-free. Our task is to minimize the effects of risks to which we are exposed. Surveillance systems do so in two ways - proactively and reactively. Proactively, the simple presence of observation equipment serves as a deterrent to unwanted activity. Reactively, unmonitored surveillance systems can provide a captured video stream for subsequent analysis in litigating unwanted or criminal activity while monitored systems afford the option of human intervention when unwanted activity is observed.
Q: How much do surveillance systems cost?
A: Costs range from less than $100 for a simple one-camera B&W system with sequential viewing to several thousand dollars for the more sophisticated multiple-camera color systems with multiple viewing/recording options. In general, system cost increases as a function of selecting color over B&W, adding security cameras, and enhancing monitoring and recording capability.
Q: What is a wireless observation system?
A: Wireless usually infers the absence of cables between the security camera(s) and the receiver/monitor, although some smaller systems do feature battery-powered security cameras, augmenting the usual feature of an AC power adapter. Camera mobility is significantly enhanced with wireless sytstems.
